Mubarak and Abdullah probe combating terrorism
Egypt-Jordan, Politics, 4/29/2006
Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak and Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak arrived to Jordan today for a summit in Aqaba.
Ambassador Soliman Awwad, the Presidential Spokesman told al-Ahram that the summit talks will tackle Arab efforts for combating terrorism, ways of maintaining Iraq's unity, the Iranian nuclear file and its implications to the stability of the region.
The summit will also discuss ways of boosting joint cooperation and the status of the Egyptian labor in Jordan, Ambassador Awwad said.
In Amman, a Jordanian source said the two leaders will discuss the developments on the regional and world arenas adding that the meeting will also discuss ways of combating terrorism and extremism.
An official source at the Jordanian Royal Cabinet said the two leaders will further discuss the Iranian US relations and the potential confrontation between the two countries.
Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul-Gheit and his Jordanian counterpart Abdel Elah Al Khatib will hold a press conference on the sidelines of the summit.
Egypt has officially asked the United States and the European Union as well as a number of world countries to reconsider their hardline stance towards the initiative launched by Egypt last September for convening a general assembly session for adopting a work plan for combating terrorism.
Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit told al-Ahram that he sent messages to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, European counterparts together with the foreign ministers of Canada and Australia in which he asserted that terrorist acts in many parts of the world especially the latest ones in Dahab necessitate a review of their attitude towards the Egyptian initiative.
