Candians seek boycott of Israeli products, support Palestinians
Palestine-Israel-Canada, Politics, 4/29/2006
Palestinian activists in Montreal will stage next Saturday a mass rally later as part of their campaign for boycott, divestment and sanctions against Israel.
Palestinian Grassroots Anti-Apartheid Wall Campaign said today in a press release that Palestinian organisations will be joined in the action by trade unions, NGOs, student groups, political campaigners and members of the general public.
Rally organizers said the event, will reaffirm the Canadian public's "support for the Palestinian people, and their inalienable right to self-determination in the face of a military occupation and an apartheid regime which tries to totally surround them with a Wall."
Grassroots said the activists are targeting Montreal liquor sellers to demand they stop selling "Israeli" wine, which is produced in Palestine or other occupied territories. The rally will be held in front of the SAQ store - one of Montreal's main sellers of wine produced in the Golan Heights region, which was occupied in 1967.
As well as calling for a boycott of goods produced within Israel, the activists also criticized countries that allow it to continue its racist and colonialist policies by providing political or economic support to the occupation regime, it added.
Complete economic and political boycott and sanctions against Israel are the only way of forcing it to comply with international law, end the Occupation and dismantled the seperation Wall, Grassroots concluded.
