Abbas in France today

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas will be in France today to meet with President Jacques Chirac. The issue of how to continue international aid to the Palestinians will be at the center of the talks. As President Chirac has emphasized, it is important to consider ways and means so that aid to the Palestinian people, which is necessary for political, humanitarian and economic reasons, can be continued.
The speaker of the National Assembly will host a dinner in his honor on April 27. The visit comes at a time when the European Union is asking the new Hamas-led Palestinian government to renounce violence and recognize Israel and the Oslo Agreements.
