Sweden withdraw because of Israeli forces participation

Sweden has decided to withdraw from an international military exercise to be held in Italy in May, after learning that units from the Israel Air Force would be part of it.

Israel noted that Swedish Foreign Ministry spokesman said the aim of the exercise was for future cooperation in international peacekeeping operations, but the spokesman added that participation of the Israel Air Force had changed the prerequisites of the exercise.

Israel added that the Swedish defense minister said in a statement that Sweden pulled out because a state that does not participate in international peacekeeping missions should not be part of the exercise. The statement did not mention Israel by name.
