On the blasts in north Sinai
Egypt, Local, 4/27/2006

The Egyptian government unveiled details of the attack yesterday by two individuals in Sinai. It said two suicide bombers blew themselves up in a terrorist operation targeting a vehicle belonging to the multinational force and observers - MFO - in Sinai, where they are stationed to secure the Egypt-Israel peace agreement, and a police car, near Goura airport, in north Sinai Tuesday.

The terrorist could not reach the car as the explosive charge he was carrying went off fragmenting his body.

The MFO vehicle sustained heavy damages but nobody on board was hurt.

At a distance of two kilometers from the scene, another suicide bomber driving a bicycle attacked an Egyptian police car.

Commander of Sheikh Zowaid police station Brig. Mohmoud Al Zammout saw the self-bomber and ordered accompanying policemen to disembark before the suicide bomber rammed into the police car as the explosive charge went off causing some damage to the car but no police personnel was injured.

North Sinai Governor Ahmed Abdel Hamid and a number of Prosecutors rushed to the scene.

The remains of the suicide bomber were collected. It transpired that the self bombers were having explosive belts and that the second bomber was a Bedouin.

Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif Wednesday 27/4/2006 met interior Minister Habib El Adli over plans to tighten security measures in the Sinai Peninsula.

President Hosni Mubarak at a meeting with Nazif and senior officials Wednesday stressed the need to increase security levels and adopt new strategies to secure tourists visiting Egypt.
