22 killed from explosions in Egypt resort

Three explosions rocked Dahab tourist resort on the Aqaba Gulf in Sinai, Egypt, yesterday at 7.15 p.m.
The final toll as released at midday today was the death of 22 persons, 13 Egyptians and 5 tourists of different nationalities who were present at the explosions' site. 87 were injured, 58 Egyptians and 29 of different nationalities.
The Egyptian Minster of Health has declared today that 31 of the wounded have been transferred to the hospitals of Cairo to complete their medical treatment. Meanwhile, 37 of the injured are receiving medical treatment in the nearby Sharm el-Sheikh hospital.
Since the occurrence of the incident, President Hosni Mubarak has been following up the situation and stressed the need to take the utmost care of the injured and exert all efforts to trace down the perpetrators of these terrorist acts to receive their retribution according to the law.
Mubarak, also expressed his sympathy and condolences to the victims' families and the innocent Egyptians and foreign tourists, and confirmed the Egyptian people's determination to trace down the terrorists wich aims to destabilize the security and stability of Egypt and its economy.
The Ministry of Interior said that three explosions have taken place simultaneously, the first in front of cafeteria Nelson, the second in front of cafeteria Alaa-Eddin and the third in front of Ghazala supermarket. They are all close together in the area of Al-Mamash in Sharm el-Sheikh.
The Egyptian Minister of Interior threatened to hunt down the culprits and the responsible of the explosions, adding that it is not possible to talk about the terrorist organization which is responsible for these explosions before carrying out the necessary investigations.
Leaders of the world have condemned the crime of the terrorist explosions which has taken place in the city of Dahab; President Mubarak has received phone calls condemning and denouncing the crime. Mubarak yesterday called for an all-out confrontation of blind terrorism, referring to the powers of extremism which mix policy with religion and which attempt to make an estrangement between Egypt's Moslems and Copts with the aim of undermining the stability of the homeland.
