Iran, Kuwait parliamentary friendship group meets
Kuwait-Iran, Politics, 4/24/2006

Members of the Kuwait Parliamentary Friendship Group met in Tehran with their Iranian counterparts.

Javad Sadounzadeh, head of Iran-Kuwait Parliamentary Friendship Group, described Iran-Kuwait ties as "very good" and "cordial." He said the Iranian government attaches great importance to the expansion of mutual ties with Kuwait as a "brother" country.

"Iran-Kuwait relations are not only diplomatic and economic but are also based on religious, cultural and humanitarian principles," he said.

Referring to Iran's stances on its nuclear case, Sadounzadeh noted that access to nuclear technology for peaceful purposes is the inalienable right of NPT member states.

He added that nonmilitary use of nuclear know-how has been reiterated by Iranian officials but that certain countries, particularly Iran's neighbors, have no concern in this regard.

Expressing satisfaction over the high-level bilateral ties with Iran, the head of the Kuwait Parliamentary Friendship Group, Fahd Dahisan Almia, stressed current potentials of both countries for expansion of ties in the political, parliamentary and economic arenas.

He added that parliamentary groups have a great role in enhancing ties between the two countries. "Diplomatic shuttles and visits not enhance bilateral relations but also they make nations of the two countries closer to each other," he noted, adding that history will attest to this fact.

Hailing Iran's stances when Saddam Hussein's regime in Iraq occupied Kuwait, the official said there was no question as to Iran's peaceful and nonmilitary use of nuclear technology.
