On Hariri's views of PFLP comments
Lebanon, Politics, 4/22/2006
Head of the Future bloc in Parliament MP Saad al-Hariri's Press Office reaffirmed earlier this week the commitment of Hariri to pursuing efforts that aim at implementing the decisions that were taken by political leaders, by consensus, during ongoing national dialogue talks in Beirut.
In response to "inaccurate comments" made to the press by the Secretary General of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine- General Command (PFLP-GC) Ahmad Gibril, about discussions that were recently held between Mr. Gibril and head of the Future bloc in Koreitem, the Press Office pointed out to an accord between both sides to keep the meeting's proceedings within political circles only.
In a statement, head of the Future bloc's Press Office stressed that the Koreitem meeting had been serious, with deep discussions about Palestinian refugees in Lebanon, especially the issue of withdrawing weapons from outside refugee camps, in line with an accord that was reached by Lebanese political leaders. MP Hariri and other leaders were entrusted with helping implement national dialogue agreements, including the improvement of the living conditions of Palestinian refugees within the framework of the Lebanese Constitution and the Taif Agreement, which reject any resettlement of refugees.
However Mr. Gibril's comments, the statement added, reflected instructions that he received by those who are harmed by national dialogue to obstruct it. The statement reiterated head of the Future bloc's commitment to implementing national dialogue accords, to serve the interests of Lebanon, Palestinian refugees and the Palestinian cause which remains the focal point in the Arab struggle with Israel. Regarding Mr. Gibril's comments about Prime Minister Rafic al-Hariri's assassination, the statement expressed MP Hariri's full confidence in the UN-commissioned probe of the February 14 bombing and the international tribunal that is in the process of creation. It urged cooperation from all parties and said the head of the Future bloc will accept the results of the investigation.
