Iran - Algeria on Muslim discord weakening the Palestinians
Algeria-Iran, Politics, 4/18/2006

The enemies have been weakened by mounting Muslim awakening, said President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad Monday evening.

At a meeting with Algerian National People's Assembly Speaker Ammar Saadani, the president stressed that the era of Muslim discord and negligence was over.
He added that it was during the years of discord and divisions among the world's Muslims that the enemies had been able to occupy Palestine and establish Israel.

"Today, conditions have changed," the president stressed, and added that now the "spiritually invigorated and awakened Muslims are standing up against these weakened enemies."

Turning to the subject of Iran-Algeria relations, Ahmadinejad said that the two governments enjoyed "good and strong" ties.

He pointed to the possiblity that Tehran and Algiers, as two big Muslim countries, could change regional conditions in favor of the Islamic world through closer and stronger cooperation.

"The foundation of the US' and Zionist regime's existence is breaking and they are not as strong as they claim," Ahmadinejad said, adding that the US' failure in restoring normalcy in Iraq was proof of its weakness.

Saadani, for his part, said that "all Muslims of the world have been moved by the atrocities committed by the Zionists against the oppressed people of Palestine."

Supporting Ahmadinejad's comments on the Holocaust, the Algerian official said those who talk about the massacre of Jews have never bothered to bring up the genocide of one million Algerians nor have they condemned it.
