Libya-USA, Politics, 4/17/2006
A ceremony was held Saturday evening at the Policewomen College in Tripoli in honor of the mothers and wives of the victims of the American NATO attack on Libya in 1986.
The US attacked Libya territories at the time by air, because the US said Libya was involved in a terrorist bombing against Americans. The US military was said to have aimed to kill the Libyan leader Muammar al-Qathafi by its air raid that targeted his residence, resulting in the death of one of his daughters, while he escaped the attack.
The ceremony organized by Libyan Mujahideen freedom fighters Association in collaboration with the GPC for Public Security was held in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the attack and was attended by the Director of the Policewomen College a number of Officers of Armed People and Public Security and families of the killed.
At the beginning of the ceremony a minute of silence was observed on the souls of those victims. In the course of the ceremony appreciation certificates were awarded to the mothers and wives of the victims of the attack.
