Iranian official: US should recognize Iraq's political determination

Iran's Majlis Speaker Gholam-Ali Haddad Adel said on Sunday that United States should recognize political might of the Iraqi people.

He told reporters that the Iraqi people have displayed their political determination in the democratic elections held in the country so far.

Asked about Iraqi crisis and what proposal Iran would make in the upcoming Iran-US talks to help restore peace and security in Iraq, he said that the two sides have heard views of each other and the US prefers to hold talks after establishment of Iraq's new government. Iran is waiting for a date to be set for the talks on Iraq.

Asked about the proposal Iran would put forward to the US in the talks for betterment of situation in Iraq, Haddad Adel said Iran is waiting for a date to be fixed for the talks.

"If the US wants to resolve Iraqi crisis and establish peace and security in Iraq, it should respect the political rights of the Iraqi people which they exercised in the course of democratic elections in Iraq."
