Mashaal criticizes US efforts to provoke world against Palestine
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 4/15/2006
Head of Hamas Political Bureau Khaled Mashaal strongly criticized US in Tehran Friday for its efforts to intrigue international sentiments against Palestine.
Addressing the first day of the International Conference on Holy Qods and Support fo Palestinian People, the official said US was not in favor of peace in the region and was falsely claiming that it was a human rights advocate.
"US has ordered the halt of assistance for Palestine," Mashaal said complaining "West is pursuing a policy to impose economic sanctions against Palestine."
The Hamas official faced critical problems, financial in particular, since he took office after wining a landslide victory in Palestine's parliamentary election last January.
He called on all Arab and Muslim states to support Palestinian nation through governmental and non-governmental channels.
Mashaal stressed that preserving unity and understanding by member states of the Islamic world and Arab countries as well as avoiding regional conflicts were Key factors to counter plots of big powers.
"In the name of Palestinian nation, We announce that we do not eye for power (we are not seeking power) and will run (the country) with the help of people and democratically elected government.
He repeated his call for financial aid for Palestine from Muslim and Arab states.
"We are all fighting in one front and has no option but resistance and armed struggle," Mashaal stressed. He also asked the Islamic world "To make a joint decision against world arrogance."
Stressing that acquiring peaceful nuclear technology was the right of all countries, Mashaal encouraged all Muslim nations to find access to peaceful nuclear technology like Iran.
Any talks with Israel would be useless as it always carried a message of war, terrorism and occupation for the Palestinian nation, Mahaal said today.
"Talking to one who does not respect any rights of the Palestinian people and instead, insists on its hostility towards their will is useless," he told IRNA.
His comments came on the sidelines of the ongoing International Conference on Holy Qods and Support for Palestinian People. The three-day conference is attended by a large number of Muslim scholars including 16 parliament speakers.
Mashaal said that previous talks with Israel, both those which were held by the late Yasser Arafat and those held by President Mahmoud Abbas, have produced no results.
"What we are calling for is resistance not negotiations," the official said stressing, "Israel will not withdraw from our lands through negotiations," he said.
Mashaal said the Palestinian government would not bend to the pressures in the face of complete halt to US and European aid to Palestine telling IRNA "We take world community responsible for the hunger policy which is being practiced against the Palestinian nation."
