Iranian diplomat calls for Muslim unity against Israel
Palestine-Iran, Politics, 4/13/2006
An Iranian diplomat said today that international conferences in support of Palestinians similar to one scheduled to be held in Tehran from April 14-16 will strongly convey the message that the oppressed people of Palestine are not alone in their struggle.
Speaking to IRNA, Iranian Charge d'Affaires Farhad Assadi said conferences like the `International Conference on al-Qods and Support for the Rights of the Palestinian People' that is to start in the Iranian capital on Friday would have numerous positive results.
The Tehran conference will provide the opportunity to forge effective strategies and peaceful means within the framework of international regulations to end cases of injustice being practiced by the Israeli occupiers against the oppressed people of Palestine, said the diplomat.
The two-day conference is sponsored by Iran's Islamic Consultative Assembly (Majlis). Representatives of more than 50 Muslim states and several international bodies are expected to attend.
Pointing out that Israel was the "real threat against regional and international peace," Assadi elaborated: "Israel is the permanent regional threat as it did not sign any international agreement, including the Non-Proloferation Treaty (NPT)." He called for unity among Muslim states, particularly those of the region, as the best strategy to defeat the plots and machinations of Israel.
Assadi also said that US support for Israel was the main reason for its defiance of international regulations, particularly United Nations resolutions.
Israel, which has the biggest arsenal of nuclear weapons and weapons of mass destruction, is not only a threat against regional states but against international security as well, stressed the diplomat.
