Asefi: World muslims happy with Iran's big nuclear success

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi said on yesterday that Iran's "big" success in mastering nuclear fuel cycle has made the world of Islam happy.

"The big success has placed Iran among a few countries possessing such a technology in the world," said Asefi, stressing that the "big" success is the outcome of Iranian scientists' endeavors.

He said the success is a source of honor not only for the Iranian nation but also for the world of Islam.

The US has launched wide-scale efforts to convince the world that Iran defies the international community, while the fact is that the success has made Muslim states highly happy.

He added that the US opposition is due to Iran's independence, which is the key to Islamic dignity and strength.

Asefi, who is in Istanbul to attend the conference of the OIC parliament speakers, said Muslim envoys, present in the meeting, had in their talks with Iranian officials announced that they considered he achievement as a success and congratulated Iran on the issue.

Sudanese National Assembly Speaker Ahmed Ibrahim al-Taher expressed delight over Iran's achievement in the area of peaceful nuclear technology.

At a meeting with his Iranian counterpart Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel on the sidelines of the 4th Parliamentary Speakers' Conference of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), he said Khartoum was happy to hear that Tehran had successfully achieved uranium enrichment.

Egyptian Parliament Speaker Ahmed Fathi Surur here Wednesday evening voiced his country's support for Iran's peaceful nuclear activities.

At a meeting with his Iranian counterpart Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel on the sidelines of the 4th Parliamentary Speakers' Conference of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), he said Cairo gives no weight to threats against Iran.

Lauding Iran's brave stances on various issues, he said these stances have the effect of enhancing the morale of Muslim nations.

Expressing his concern over the West's hostile attitude towards Iran, he praised Iran as a great Islamic country, adding that "we hope the Islamic Republic of Iran remains a powerful and great country forever." Iran, he went on to say, is an important country in the region, and stressed that any harm to Iran will inflict damage to all regional states.

Referring to the US' attitude toward Iran's peaceful nuclear activities, the Iranian Majlis speaker said it was its way of making excuses for its wrong policies.

The US has long been an enemy of the Islamic Republic of Iran since the victory of the 1979 Islamic Revolution, he said, noting that at that time Iran had not obtained nuclear prowess.

During the Pahlavi regime, he recalled, Iran was a base for support for Israel in the region but that the advent of the Islamic Revolution in Iran demolished such base and disturbed Washington.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad congratulated the Iranian nation and government on the occasion of Iran joining of the world nuclear club.
