Mashaal appeals Arab states to increase its support for the Palestinian government
Palestine-Regional, Politics, 4/6/2006

The chairman of the political bureau of the Islamic resistance movement (Hamas) said that the government of Hamas inherited a heavy burden and empty treasury, noting that the allocations of the recent Arab summit in Khartoum do not meet the demands.

Mashaal who met on Tuesday with Omani high ranking officials in Muscat said that the government of Hamas inherited debts estimated at $700 million while the salaries of the state's employees alone are estimated at $115 million, considering that the threats to sever international aid increases the current burdens.

However, the US Secretary Of State, Condoleezza Rice, said in a session for the Congress on the budget that Washington wants to increase humanitarian aid for the Palestinians and help them control the spread of the "Bird Flue" disease because it does not want to send a "negative message to the Palestinian people over their humanitarian aid."
