Zaman: Gul: Iran and Syria to confront PKK forces
Syria-Turkey, Politics, 4/4/2006
Turkey's Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul said on Friday night in an interview with Turkey's state television, TRT1, that both Iran and Syria have pledged to confront the forces of the Kurdish PKK party, the Turkish daily "Zaman " reported
Zaman added that Gul who was taking part in a TV political debate program also said that Iran and Syria have been confronting the PKK (Turkey's Kurdish Workers Party) forces throughout the past couple of years and the three countries' intelligence agencies have been cooperating closely in many fields, including on PKK issue.
According to Gul," Zaman said" Ankara also expects the Baghdad government to confront the PKK forces in northern parts of Iraq, arguing that "Otherwise, the PKK forces would definitely inflict losses against Iraq, as well as Turkey, in the future...Among the PKK forces who got killed in clashes with Turkish military and security forces in southeast Turkey there were three Syrian, and Iraqi, and Iranian Kurd nationals."
The Turkish FM said that in a recent phone talk with his Danish counterpart Per Stig Mueller he had asked him to interfere and halt the broadcasting of the programs of the 'terrorist' Copenhagen based Rouge TV, that is affiliated to the PKK.
According to Gul, Moeller has assured Turkey that Copenhagen would not allow the broadcasting of such propaganda that would lead to emergence of chaotic conditions in Turkish eastern provinces.
