Ibrahim Nafe brought before Egyptian judiciary over corruption
Egypt, Politics, 4/4/2006
The general assets attorney in Egypt started listening to statements by the former chairman of the board and chief editor of the al-Ahram foundation Ibrahim Nafe over the notifications against him, accusing him of illegal profiting and damaging the public assets during his presidency of al-Ahram foundation.
This came after the Egyptian Shoura Council refused to lift parliamentary immunity from Nafe and confined to permitting him to give his statements before the attorney general.
Chief editor of the Egyptian al-Osboo weekly and member of parliament in Egypt, Mustafa Bakri, who was behind the appeal against Nafe expressed his fears of the accusations against Nafe will be dropped, accusation which he himself raised against Nafe, considering that measures so far taken against Nafe are not enough.
In an article in al-Osbo weekly, Bakri called for finalizing this case quickly which he said is of great interest to the whole public opinion in Egypt.
Nafe, for his part, defended himself against all accusations addressed to him and stressed he did not break the law during his presidency of al-Ahram foundation which lasted more than 23 years.
