Arab leaders underline importance of Arab solidarity

President Emile Lahoud of Lebanon said Wednesday that his country, which has been aspiring for the support of its brothers and friends in peace and war, has confidence that the current reconciliation process will find an Arab support beginning from its neighbor Syria who always stood by Lebanon.
"We are in need of an Arab help to boost the Lebanese options, on top Lebanon's commitment to its right in restoring the remaining parts of the occupied lands in the south, particularly Shabaa Farms as well as the necessity to protect national resistance," President Lahoud added in a speech at the final session of the 18th Arab Summit of Khartoum.
He underlined that any just solution for the Arab-Israeli conflict will not be achieved without the assertion of the Palestinian refugees' right to return according to the UN resolution number 194.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmad Abul Gheit who delivered a speech on behalf of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak said that the Palestinian issue is passing through sensitive and difficult conditions due to structural and political changes in the regional and international situation.
"Egypt expresses confidence that the Syrian-Lebanese relations take a special interest and care of all Arabs, so it is very important to purify relations between the two countries in a way that maintains stability and sovereignty," President Mubarak added.
On Iraq, the Egyptian president stressed the significance of preserving Iraq's Arabism (Arab identity) and territorial integrity, noting that national reconciliation among Iraqi people is the basic guarantee to make the political process a success.
For his part, the Iraqi president Jalal Talbani called on Arab states to support the Iraqi people and offer them help and aid to achieve security, stability and territorial integrity.
He expressed his country's commitment to positively work in the framework of the Arab League in all fields to promote it to the level of economic and political challenges the Arab nation is witnessing.
President Omar Hasan al-Bashir of Sudan, for his part, said that Khartoum Declaration which was issued at the conclusion of the Summit included the crises and challenges which face the Arab nation.
"The Declaration came in response to the minimum average of the Arab people aspirations for reform, modernization, development and openness to the world cultures and civilizations," President al-Bashir added.
He referred to the Arab solidarity and support to Sudan in its efforts to solve Darfur crisis in the framework of preserving the country's security and sovereignty as well as Arab backing to the African forces in Darfur and offering them financial aid to boost efforts of peace in Darfur.
Chinese President Hu Jintau also expressed his country's adherence to boost friendship ties and expand cooperation and mutual interests as well as establishing an Arab-Chinese partnership based on complete cooperation between the two sides.
"Cooperation between China and the Arab countries has witnessed great development in all fields as well as achieving positive outcomes," the Chinese Envoy to the Arab Summit said on behalf of the Chinese President.
