Al-Jazeera: Sudan renews rejection for UN forces in Darfur
Sudan-USA, Politics, 3/30/2006

The Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir renewed his country's rejection for the deployment of UN forces in Darfur district, west of the country instead of the African forces which assume peace keeping in the region and considered the American pressure to that end part of Washington's plans against Sudan, al-Jazeera satellite TV showed.

The US had proposed a draft resolution to the UN Security Council seeking UN forces in Darfur at the end of the African forces mission which was recently renewed.

In an exclusive meeting with al-Jazeera TV, hours after the conclusion of the Arab summit in Khartoum, Sudan, the Sudanese president stressed that his country will not permit the deployment of UN forces in Darfur district in order to solve the crisis impeding the region since three years. He added that such UN forces are aimed for coming to Darfur to stay there rather to solve the crisis.

The Arab Summit which was held on Tuesday and Wednesday decided to allocate $150 million to contribute to finance forces of the African Union in Darfur for six months to start as from October. A date which was set by the African Union to withdraw its forces from the district because of its inability to finance it.

On the other hand, the Sudanese president explained that consultations are continuous with the Arab and African states over dispatching forces to the region.

Bashir denied that Darfur district had witnessed mass killing, but he admitted that the region is in state of fighting, in the context of action and reaction among the fighting sides in the region, which resulted in displacement operations.

Bashir told al-Jazeeera that the US motivation in Sudan is pretext to target Sudan because of its opposition for many of its policies in the region, including the invasion of Iraq and normalization with Israel.
