Inter- Lebanese session closed without resolving Presidency issue
Lebanon, Politics, 3/28/2006

The speaker of the Lebanese parliament Nabih Berri announced the postponement of the dialogue sessions until next Monday, noting that the session which was held on Monday did not reach a result concerning the unresolved difference of views regarding the issue of President Emile Lahoud and his stay in office.

In a press conference, Berri said that a great controversy took place on this matter and the sides did not reach a solution and this article will be on the agenda of the next session on April 3rd.

Those said to have anti-Syria sentiments persist to have President Lahoud removed, while the Hizbullah party and its ally the parliamentarian Michel Aoun, the leader of the Free National Trend, consider that the political crisis taking place in Lebanon is not a result of Lahoud's presence as president.

Berri explained that discussions also dealt with the results of the visit of the Lebanese prime minister Foaud Sinioura to Egypt and Saudi Arabia where Sinioura met senior officials in the two states over dialogue issues listed in the conference.

The conference was also unable to reach a solution to the issue of dismantling the weapons of Hizbullah.

The 14th session of inter- Lebanese dialogue was held on the eve of the Arab summit which will open today in Khartoum, Sudan. The summit was to be attended by the Lebanese prime minister Fouad Sinioura amid a vow on an Arab role to get out of the current political crisis with Syria. However, the Lebanese President Emil Lahoud arrived in Khartoum to take part in the summit after several hours before it was announced that the prime minister Fouad Sinioura is the one who will lead the Lebanese delegation.

Lebanese sources attributed the controversy for Lahoud's participation to the message addressed by the majority parliamentarians opposition block to the Arab states leaders in which they asked them not to recognize the legitimacy of the representation of the Lebanese President.
