BBC: Hizbullah and Aoun do not view Lahoud as the problem
Lebanon, Politics, 3/23/2006
The deputy chairman of the Lebanese Hizbullah party Sheikh Naem Qasem considered on the eve of the dialogue in Lebanon that the "problem does not lie in the Lebanese Presidency rather in the way of running the country, in general."
He noted that the party's leadership listened to debates and proposals made by the leader of the parliamentary majority Saad al-Hariri on names to replace president Emile Lahoud and announced cling to that the president needs to complete his term of office.
In an interview with the BBC, Qasem expressed his conviction that the problem is not in the president of the republic, rather in the hurry of the parliamentary majority which wants to create a formula that works to its advantage.
In the same context, the Maronite patriarch Nasrullah Sfeir renewed on Wednesday his rejection to removing Lahoud by use "of the public taking to the streets." Sfeir who is considered a patron for the parliamentary majority made his statement before he had left to the Vatican.
