Iran Supreme Leader: US aims to dominate Iran
Iran-USA, Politics, 3/22/2006
Iran's Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei today in Khorasan Razavi province said that the people and their officials will do their best to defend their rights and interests by maintaining unity and relying on the grace of god.
Yesterday, speaking before thousands of pilgrims at the holy shrine of Imam Reza, said the USA wants that the Iran submit to its economic, political and cultural hegemony and have a say in the choice of Iranian officials that will administer the country's affairs.
Khamenei said that that the US strategy of dealing with Iran characterized by the use of threats, bullying, psychological propaganda, creating discord, doubt, hopelessness and insecurity, imposing pressure on officials are all doomed to fail due to the vigilance and unity of the nation and government.
As to the US threat of possible sanctions that may be imposed on Iran, Ayatollah Khamenei said that what Iran has so far achieved in the domains of science, medicine, military and industries have all been made at a time when Iran was under sanctions, and added that there was no need for the nation to panic.
He referred to the current nuclear dispute, and said what the enemies desire is to deny the Iranian nation the right to access nuclear technology because this will make the country even more powerful and further defeat their hegemonic ambitions.
"If the nation does not vindicate its right to nuclear energy today it will be left behind dozens of years in terms of development. In addition, the time will come when Iran will have to stretch its hands to strangers and enemies to ask for nuclear fuel to meet its requirements in many fields.
"With the world gradually running out of oil reserves, all countries, including the US and Europe, need new, cleaner sources of energy and, in particular, nuclear energy, which is what the whole world is after. We, too, insist that access to the nuclear fuel cycle and technology be recognized for the Iranian nation. Therefore, we will not surrender our rights and will not allow the US to bully us," added the Supreme Leader.
