Cairo hosts Third Arab media Forum
Regional, Politics, 3/22/2006
Under the slogan of "progressive vision for the Arab media future" Cairo hosts activities of the third Media Forum on April 22 through 24.
This is the third event following two earlier forums of great success hosted by Kuwait in 2003. This is the first time in which the event is held outside Kuwait. This year's forum will be held under the auspices of Egypt's prime minister Ahmad Nazif.
Madi al-Khamis, general coordinator of the Arab media forum disclosed that elite representatives of Arab media from all Arab states and many foreign countries as well as media experts and academics were invited to take part in the forum.
He said that theforum's seminars and activities for this year are focused on issues linked directly to the media and that the participants in the forum will discuss several economic, political and developmental subjects on the ground of its connections to the media and the reciprocated impact. This will be highlighted in several interventions including topics on reforms, terrorism, financing and other related issues.
Khamis explained that choosing Cairo to be the first venue for the forum outside Kuwait stems from the importance of Egypt in its capacity as one of the main field for Arab media and its significance as a media and cultural center and the abundant media means it enjoys. A matter which will ensure the forum a great success.
He added that among many others, the Cairo forum aims at depicting indicators of Arab media, ambitions and challenges of the future of the Arab media so as to be able "come out with an advanced outlook" through which "a common Arab media atmosphere can be created, contributing to meeting great expectations inspired by Arab peoples."
Khamis also continued that coordination was maintained with the sides concerned to take part in the organization of this pivotal event, which will be held in close cooperation with al-Ahram Foundation and several media faculties in Egypt as well as several media establishments.
The Arab forum is considered a Kuwait initiative started in 2003 with the aim "to create a strategic Arab media atmosphere that exterminate inter-Arab media contradictions and maintain a common criterion of solidarity with the aim to withstand hostile media campaigns hatched against the Arab nation for perpetuating foreign control of the other side's media conceptions. Moreover, the forum aims at improving the Arab media address, opening the door before all media trends in a sublime dialoguing language and modern technological instruments to draw an advanced vision for the Arab media not only as consumer for the media product, rather as participants in the Arab and regional media map."
