Hamas renews rejection to recognize Israel
Bahrain-Palestine, Politics, 3/22/2006
The Islamic resistance movement (Hamas) renewed its rejection to recognize Israel and considered that this position is its natural right, and that recognizing Israel does not reflect the true path to solve the conflict with the occupation.
Chairman of the political bureau for the Hamas movement Khaled Mashaal said in a press conference in Bahrain's capital Manama "the victim cannot recognize its tyrant. Those who want to do anything (help) to resolve the Arab- Israeli conflict have to pressure on Israel."
Mashaal considered that recognizing Israel is not the true path to solve the problem because "this holds the victim responsible for the conflict, while the occupier has to bear the responsibility for the occupation."
Concerning Hamas's position regarding the Arab initiative which was launched in Beirut's Arab summit in 2002, Mashaal said the problem does not lie in Hamas's position nor in the Arab or Islamic position, rather in the Israeli stand. Mashaal indicated that the Israeli prime minister then Ariel Sharon reacted to the Arab initiative by invading the West Bank.
Mashaal said that "Israel has to end its occupation of the Palestinian territories and then we will step with the Arabs and Muslims to take new steps to make a just peace."
