Islamic Army in Iraq puts conditions for negotiations with USA
Iraq-USA, Politics, 3/21/2006
The official spokesman for the Islamic Army in Iraq, Ibrahim al-Shumarri, disclosed that there are contacts through mediators with groups representing resistance in Iraq, but the Islamic army did not take part in it.
Shumarri said in a statement to al-Jazeera satellite tv to be broadcast "today meeting" program scheduled on Thursday "we do not refuse negotiations with the Americans if the negotiation is for the exist of the occupation forces."
Shummari set two conditions for joining negotiations with the Americans: withdrawal and recognizing the resistance. He said that his first condition is that "the congress to issue an abiding decision for the American government to evacuate Iraq within a specific time," while the second is the "recognize the resistance as the sole legitimate representative for the Iraqi people."
He indicated that all occupation forces in the world recognized resistance as a sole and legitimate representative, questioning why the Iraqi resistance should be different.
Despite his approval initially to negotiate with the Americans, the official spokesman for the Islamic Army in Iraq criticized the Iraqi government and described it as sectarian gangs and refused its calls to dialogue with the gunmen.
