Fatah to collect its weapons inside Lebanon's camps
Lebanon-Palestine, Politics, 3/20/2006
The Palestinian movement Fatah in Lebanon has joined the Lebanese national inter-dialogue three days before the resumption of its third round. Fatah announced it will collect the weapons it owns in the camps in response to what was agreed upon by the leaders of the Lebanese parties and trends.
Fatah's official in Lebanon, Sultan Abu al-Einin, said from his headquarters in al-Rashedeyah camp south of the country that Fatah decided to collect all weapons it owns including individual weapons in a safe place (inside the camps) in line of what had been decided in the Lebanese national dialogue conference.
Abu al-Einin explained in a speech he delivered in al-Rashedeyah that the PLO which is led by Fatah does not include the Islamic organizations like Hamas movement and the pro Syria Palestinian groups, in remarks to that his initiative does not include the said groups.
Worthy mentioning that representatives of 14 Lebanese trends and parties agreed in conclusion of the second round of their meetings which started on march 2nd on the need to dismantle the Palestinian weapons outside the camps within 6 months and organize the weapons that are inside it.
Each of the People's Front For The Liberation Of Palestine- General Command and Fatah- the Intifada which are close to Damascus keep since many years weapons in positions south of Beirut and in the Bekaa which is close to the border with Syria. However, this matter has become a reason for tension with the Lebanese security forces after the withdrawal of the Syrian army from this country one year before.
