Arab-Europe gas pipeline to boost economic, political ties
Regional-European Union, Economics, 3/20/2006

Egypt's Petroleum minister Sameh Fahmi said Saturday a gas pipeline linking Egypt, Syria, Jordan, and Lebanon with European gas network would strengthen economic and political ties between both sides.

Fahmi told reporters the Europeans were interested in the Arab gas pipeline project because it would be one of the major and clean source of energy for Europe.

The oil ministers of Egypt, Syria, Jordan and Lebanon will be meeting oil ministers from Turkey, Romania and Bulgaria in Cairo tomorrow.

They will discuss the export of the Egyptian gas to Turkey and then to other European countries.

Fahmi said the talks would touch on the best routes of the Arab gas pipeline from Syria to Turkey.

The ministers will also discuss constructions of some parts of the pipeline by a consortium of companies from Egypt, Turkey and Syria, said Fahmi.
