Hamas forms new government without other groups
Palestine, Politics, 3/18/2006

The Islamic resistance movement, Hamas, said that it will end seeking participation of other groups in the formation of the Palestinian government when it receives the last answer (supposed to have been Friday evening) from the groups concerning participation in the government.

The designated prime minister Ismael Henya is due to propose the final formation today to the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Gaza.

The spokesman for Hamas bloc in the Palestinian legislative council Salah al-Bardawil said in statements to the press that several parliamentary blocs notified the movement officially it will not take part in the government.

Among the blocs that refused to take part in Hamas government are the Democratic Front For The Liberation Of Palestine, al-Chaab party, and the Third Way led by former minister of finance Salam Fayyad, and independent Palestine led by Mustafa al-Narghouthi.

It is also clear that the Palestine national liberation front Fatah refuses taking part amid confirmations from sources in the movement that its central committee has eventually taken this decision.

On the other hand, the designate d Palestinian prime minister said that dialogue with Fatah will continue even if it refuses to take part in the new government.

He said in statements "the rejection of our brothers in Fatah to take part in the government will be against our will." He said he will make his contacts with President Abbas over announcing the formation of his government.

Meantime, the chairman of the political bureau of Hamas, Khaled Mashaal, said that the movement is ready to continue resistance against the Israeli occupation. He said in a speech he delivered on Thursday evening in Damascus on the occasion of the 40- day after the demise of the former chairman of the Palestinian National Council, Khaled al-Fahoum, that the power the movement had gained in the recent elections will not be more important than the option of resistance.

He added that Hamas is focused on liberating the land and ensuring the restoration of the "right of return" of Palestinian to their original residence, releasing the detainees, and ensuring all Palestinian rights.
