Hamas new government on Saturday
Palestine, Politics, 3/17/2006

The designated Palestinian prime minister Ismael Henya is expected to hand over the Palestinian President Saturday names of his government members, at a time of an increasing possibility that Fatah will refuse taking part in this government.

Chairman of Fatah bloc in the Palestinian legislative council, parliamentarian Azzam al-Ahmad said that the movement will not take part in the government which will be formed by the Islamic resistance movement Hamas unless Hamas amends its program.

The spokesman for Hamas bloc at the Palestinian parliament Salah al-Bardawil said that Fatah does not want a compromise solution, rather, Fatah wants a recognition of the Oslo agreement. "This indicates it does not want to take part," stressing that Hamas " is not ready to give up nor to quit its program on the basis of which it campaigned in the elections and we will not accept Fatah's program."

Hamas resumed consultations with the Palestinian groups. It held last minutes talks with the People's Front For Liberation Of Palestine but reaching no agreement over the participation in the government.

The Front's representative Jamil al-Majdalawi said that the difference with Hamas concentrates on having in the government program declaration a phrase considering the PLO the sole representative for the Palestinians; an indication that Hamas is opposed to such a declaration.

For its part, the PLO executive committee called, after its meeting in Ramullah on Thursday, Henya to abide by the political program of the PLO and the Palestinian Independent Document and the Government's basic law.

It also urged the next government to find out a "regional solution and to solve the Palestinian issue on the basis of international resolution."
