Syria, Economics, 3/15/2006
The World Bank allocated $250,000 annually as aid to revive the ancient city of Hama and rehabilitated it to reveal the cultural image of the city as one of the oldest city in Syria, Head of Hama City Council Mohammed Amin Kandakji said Tuesday.
Kandakji pointed out in a statement that the aid will be granted to the city starting from this year, asserting that it is the result of the good relations with the Bank and the success that the Symposium of the Arab Cities held in Hama last year in cooperation with the World Bank and the Arab Institute for Reviving Cities.
He added the Bank will send two experts in the field of old cities to document the old city of Hama and present an overall report to the Bank in order to offer further financial aid to the city.
