Palestinians ask Red Cross help from Israel's attack on Jericho Prison
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 3/14/2006

WAFA reported today that the Israeli occupation forces "killed on Tuesday two Palestinian policemen and wounded others during its raid on Jericho Central prison in Al-Muqat'a in Jericho."

WAFA reported that "Israeli snipers took positions on the roofs of high buildings, while bulldozers stormed Al-Muqata'a and started to tear down the western and eastern walls of Al-Muqata'a. Security sources confirmed that American and British monitors guarding central Jericho prison have left their positions just minuets before Israeli soldiers stormed Al-Muqata'a."

WAFA added "Israeli soldiers called through a loudspeaker on the Secretary General of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), Ahmed Saadat and others, accused of killing, Rehavam Ze'evi, to come out and surrender themselves."

WAFA added "Prime Minister Ahmed Qurei called Tuesday on the international community and the USA to hold responsibility and hastily intervene to avoid the disaster of endangering Ahmed Saadat's life, Secretary General of Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and the six others detained in Jericho central prison in the West Bank. In a press statement faxed to WAFA, Qurei said that the Palestinian National Authority has already started its contacts with other international bodies, calling on the USA and Britain who officially cosponsored the protection of the prisoners in Jericho Central prison to immediately move in order to avoid a catastrophe of endangering the prisoners' life in Jeicho prison."

The Palestinian Prime Minister denounced such a heinous Israeli act to hurt Saadat's life, saying "such an act contradicts all international pacts and accords, mostly the one according to which Saadat is detained in Jericho jail."

WAFA said the Palestinian administration of Jericho Hospital called on the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the international organizations to immediately intervene to help the medical teams to reach in Jericho Central Prison, in orderto evacuate the wounded people.
