Jordan executes two convicted of killing American diplomats
Jordan-USA, Politics, 3/11/2006
The Jordanian authorities today hung two persons convicted of killing the American diplomat Laurence Folley in Amman on October 28, 2002.
An official source announced the execution of each of the Libyan Salem Saad Salem Bin Sweid ( 43 years old) and the Jordanian Fatehi Ibrahim Freihat ( 31 years old) in Swaqa rehabilitation center to the south of the capital Amman.
The two convicted men were sentenced to death in 2004 after they were found guilty of carrying out "terrorist acts" that resulted in killing the American diplomat who is an official at the American Agency For International Development.
The attempt to execute the sentence ten days ago caused a rebellion in a Jordanian jail, that resulted in scores of security men being seized by prisoners including the director of jails administration Saad al-Ajramai who was removed from his post after the end of the crisis.
The demands of the prisoners then ranged between improving their detention conditions and the release of the Iraqi woman Sajida al-Rashawi who failed in blowing up herself during suicide attacks which targeted three hotels in Amman in November 2005.
