Continued deteriorated security situations in Iraq

In addition to the political bottleneck, the security situation in Iraq started to greatly deteriorate, warning of great developments that might get out of control, as warned by Iraqi and foreign politicians.
Acts of violence, breaking in, and explosions continued in various parts of Iraq. In Tikrit north of Baghdad, Iraqis were killed and six injured in clashes between members of the national guards and unidentified gunmen. The American forces detained 12 persons over suspicion of being gunmen. The army said that weapons were found in a shelter owned by those persons.
In Baqouba north of Baghdad, four Iraqis were killed by the fire of gunmen in the outskirts of the city. American, and Iraqi joint forces detained 8 Iraqis, four of them were in al-Kheir mosque in al-Khadra quarters west of Baghdad over suspicion of having links to gunmen.
In Karkouk north of Baghdad, the police said that gunmen killed one of its members and an activist in the field of human rights and a third was injured west of the city.
The past 24 hours witnessed confrontations and acts of violence that resulted in killing one American soldier as well as 20 Iraqis while other 22 were injured in Baghdad, Samara and Tikrit and other cities.
Most of the attacks targeted American and Iraqi forces but took along them Iraqis who were near the targeted areas or injured as a result of random fire after the explosions.
One American tank was attacked and burnt by one explosive placed on the roadside in "the army canal" area east of the capital.
In Washington, the US President George W. Bush defined in his weekly speech one objective for the Iraqi security forces so as to maintain control on other areas than those controlled by the coalition forces led by the USA by the end of 2006.
