Iran: threats or not, we are moving ahead with our rights
Iran-UN, Politics, 3/9/2006

The Iranian Majlis (parliament) deputies today reacting to the International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA) referral Wednesday of Iran's nuclear dossier to the UN Security Council on the basis of IAEA Director-General Mohamed ElBaradei's report, 195 MPs condemned the move by issuing the following letter "The brave Iranian nation is aware that continuing pressures using the country's nuclear activities as a pretext are the result of efforts to seek independence achieved by a nation through the Islamic Revolution and determined to cut the hand of foreigners from its affairs," the letter said.

"The heroic sons of Islamic Iran have reached a high degree of scientific capability thanks to their devotion to religion and belief in their capacity. The same thing is true with respect to areas previousl monopolized by the big powers.

"This speaks of the high degree of efficiency of the Islamic system in responding to the needs of the nation which has become an example to the region and the world," it added.

It said "In recent months, the global hegemonic coalition, including Zionism, under the United States' leadership made it appear that Iran was pursuing nuclear weapons.

"But the whole world knows that the Iranian nation is defying various threats and pressures because it has the right under the Non-Prliferation Treaty and will defend this right to access nuclear research at all cost.

"Our government endeavored to build the confidence of the world by adhering to international regulations and by engaging in dialogue with opposing parties, allowing IAEA inspections and suspending its nuclear activities.

"But it seems such measures came to naught because of the illegal machinations of big powers. They raised unfounded and illegal demands such as permanent suspension of nuclear research.

"We, the MPs, would like to remind that it is the duty of the government to precisely implement regulations and end suspension of all nuclear activities as mandated by law," the statement said.

Meantime, with the multitude of repeated US threats against Iran of inflicting harm on it, be it economic or of vague military threats, Iranian military officials indicated they are willing to defend Iran against aggression. Brigadier General Hossein Salami said today that the Iranian nation will overcome nuclear issue through resistance. Speaking to a group of IRGC commanders in East and West Azarbaijan provinces, he said "We have assessed the ultimate power of the global arrogance and on this basis there is nothing to worry about."

"The global arrogance has resorted to all its capabilities and facilities to make the Islamic government of Iran yield," he said adding that "the decisive reply given by the Iranian nation and its Supreme Leader has foiled all pressures and plots."

"Foreign powers who turned Iraq and Afghanistan into scenes of their military show-off, exercise caution when they come near the Iranian border, he said.

Sacrifices of martyrs is the guarantors of the Islamic system and nation in dealing with global arrogance," he underlined. "The brave Iranian nation never yields to any powers in the world," he said.

Iran's Defense Minister Brigadier General Mostafa Mohammad Najjar said today that "the Islamic Republic of Iran is determined to make use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes as its legitimate right." In an exclusive interview with IRNA, he said "Depriving the country of access to peaceful nuclear technology is like depriving the nation of its natural access to air, water and food. We have announced times and again that peaceful use of nuclear technology is among our legitimate rights and we are to make use of it," he said.

Iran favors as a world free from nuclear weapons to let humanity live in peace and tranquility, he said.

Iran's nuclear dossier is a technical issue and therefore it should not be turned into to a political-security problem, pointed out the minister.

The minister said that reporting Iran's nuclear dossier to the UN Security Council only serves to discredit international organizations, and warned that "If any country intends to attack Iran, it should expect a fatal reply by the Iranian armed forces," he said. The Iranian armed forces are in full combat readiness and are to defend the country's territorial integrity with full power, concluded the minister.

Meantime, the IAEA agency that clearly asserted that Iran has not violated the nuclear non-proliferation treaty, yet at the same time, made what can be seen as a purely political decision to refer Iran to the Security Council as a result of political pressure, is now calling for negotiations, and is hoping to use the Security Council as additional leverage for negotiation. What is puzzling is if this agency is saying that Iran is not violating the nuclear treaty, then what is there to negotiate?

It can be seen that this agency has become such a discredit organization that Iran wants little to do to aid this agency and its supporters to dig themselves out of the mess they have brought on themselves by their sheer arrogance. It also can be seen now that the best strategy for the US is a prolongation of this issue, where the issue can be stringed to remain in the hands of the Security Council, where the US and its supporters have always dominated this organization as well.
