Revival of land transport line between Tel-Aviv -Cairo
Egypt-Israel, Economics, 3/9/2006
Israel intends, according to the Egyptian radio to revive land transport line between Tel-Aviv and Cairo by buses. This line was closed ten years ago because of weak revenues.
The Israeli radio added that an initial agreement was reached to this effect between the Israeli minister of tourism Abraham Hershinson and his Egyptian peer Muhammad Zuheir Jarannah who had met on the sideline of a conference they are taking part in in Berlin.
On the other hand, the spokesman for the Israeli ministry of tourism Jonathan Bolik said that the two countries are "studying" the possibility of reopening the line. This land line was opened in 1981 after the signing of the peace treaty between Egypt and Israeli but was closed by the end of 1996 because of the shortage in passengers.
