Brammertez arrives in Damascus within 48 hours
Syria-Lebanon-UN, Politics, 3/9/2006

The chairman of the UN investigation committee into the assassination of the former Lebanese prime minister Rafiq al-Hariri, Serge Brammertez, is expected to arrive in the Syrian capital with the two coming days.

The visit will be in the course of materializing the understanding which he had reached with the Syrian government over meeting with the Syrian witnesses in complete secrecy. This will be before he will submit his first seasonal report to the UN Security Council on March 15 on the assessment of the work of the committee during the time when the committee was chaired by Deltev Mehlis and the progress of its work during the three past months.

The legal advisor at the Syrian foreign ministry Riad al-Dawoudi visited on Tuesday the headquarters of the investigation committee in the Monte Verdi where he had met with Brammertez and his new aides for two hours.
