Russia puts pressure on Syria
Syria-Russia, Politics, 3/9/2006

Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem is expected to visit Moscow next week, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

"We plan to discuss the situation in the region and urge Syria to cooperate with the UN commission. This is our position," Lavrov said on Wednesday.

"Attention will be given to the development of Russian-Syrian relations. We will also discuss the implementation of the UN Security Council resolution on Syria," the minister said.

Lavrov, who two days ago was seeking US economic help and discussing other issue in Washington, spoke of the common goals with US over the Iran nuclear issue.
