Ahmadinejad: Iran to continue peaceful nuclear activities
Iran-Regional, Politics, 3/8/2006
Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Wednesday said that Iran is determined to continue its peaceful nuclear activities, dispute US threats.
This comes as the Russian foreign minister met with the US secretary Of State yesterday seeking support from the US in economics issues in World Trade talks and other Russian interests that the foreign minister was asking the US for. The Russian foreign minister indicated that Iran was a subject of discussions and that Russia agrees with US goals on Iran's nuclear issue, and that the agreement in views extends to having the issue considered by the UN Security Council, according to a US Department Of State report.
Speaking at a gathering of people in the provincial capital of Khorramabad, Iran's president added that today the humanity is in the grip of the world despotism interested in making all nations obedient to them and expecting them to work towards their welfare.
The president noted that politicians are upset about the joy of the Iranian nation and are reluctant to witness its success and progress.
"The Iranian nation has neither launched aggression on any country in the past nor will it surrender to the violence of other states. I would like to inform all nations, in particular those neighboring Iran, that the Iranian people call for peace, security and tranquility based upon justice for the world nations.
"The Iranian nation has been the brother and friend of the world nations, in particular the Islamic and neighboring ones. Our nation has the potential to promote peace and security and defend the interests of the regional countries rather than intending to violate the rights of any party," added the president.
Ahmadinejad noted that the efforts of the Iranian nation to access nuclear energy is for peaceful purposes, adding that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has not even found one single document proving the country's deviation.
"Unfortunately, given the pressure exerted upon the United Nations nuclear watchdog, it has a dual approach to the issue.
"Our nation moves in the path of peace and security. Unlike other countries, where members of the government hardly dare to appear in the people's gathering, we rely upon our nation," said the president.
No nation can attain national aspirations without steadfastness and resistance to obstacles, Ahmadinejad said.
Speaking at large public gathering in Azna, Lorestan province, he said that Iranian nation has opted for progress and development and regards resistance and steadfastness as the key for achieving national aspirations.
"We are currently on a sensitive period of history and victory of the Islamic Revolution provided Iranians with great opportunity. Today, Iranian nation is on the verge of another great movement 27 years after the victory of the Islamic Revolution."
"Thank God, we have got experience from the enemies' different conspiracies, economic sanctions and Iraqi-imposed war (1980-1988)," President Ahmadinejad said.
Ahmadinejad said "Given our decision to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, we expect our relevant right to be recognized and respected.. We will move in the path indicated by the Iranian nation and are prepared to cooperate with other countries in this respect. However, if they intend to violate the rights of the Iranian nation, we would rather recommend them not to bother about it, given that our nation will not yield to oppression and political (threats) and will rather continue their own path," concluded Ahmadinejad.
