Baghdad area army commander killed; American soldier as well

A series of explosions shook the Iraqi capital Baghdad during the few past hours and resulted in killing 8 persons and wounding other 28.
Iraqi military sources said the three explosions targeted Iraqi police vehicles in the center and east of Baghdad, adding that undetermined number of civilians were killed as a result of the explosions.
A police source in Baqouba also reported that a booby trapped car blew up near a police vehicle and this resulted six civilians and injuring other 23 including several policemen. The explosion took place in a people's market in al-Takeyah quarters in the center of the city.
Also in Baqouba, three Iraqis were killed by the fire of gunmen in various areas. Lt. Gen Mubder Hatem Hadya, the commander of the 6th contingent in the Iraqi army in charge of protecting Baghdad was killed by the fire of a sniper west of the capital.
A source at the Iraqi ministry of defense said that the 6th contingent is the most important in the Iraqi army which includes 10 contingents because it is in charge of ensuring protection for the capital.
On the other hand, a Danish soldier was injured near Basra south of Iraq during fire exchange with gunmen. The soldier was transferred in a helicopter to the field hospital in Sheba Luge base in al-Basra, where the headquarters of the British and Danish forces is stationed.
In other field developments four Iraqis were killed including one tribal chief of the Sunni al-Obeid tribes in an attack against al-Hweijeh ( north of Baghdad) while one civilian was killed and two others injured in two attacks in Alexandria to the south of Baghdad.
On the other hand, the American army announced the killing of one of its soldier sin an attack launched by gunmen against an American vehicle in al-Anbar governorate west of Baghdad.
