Foreign Minister expresses satisfaction over Arab support to Syria
Syria-Regional, Politics, 3/6/2006

Foreign Minister Waled al-Mouallem expressed satisfaction with the Arab stance in solidarity with Syria which was reflected during the meetings of the 125th session of the Arab League Council on the ministerial level held in Cairo yesterday.

In a press conference following his meeting with AL Secretary General Amr Moussa on Sunday, Muaallem said Syria is committed to work for the Arab solidarity and enhance joint Arab action, noting that he underlined to Moussa Syria's firm stance in this regard.

He pointed out that "Syria's commitment to her national and pan-Arab stances are the reason behind the American continued pressures against her," indicating that "what the American administration wants is controlling the region."

The foreign minister said that Syria has reached a good understanding with the international investigation committee into the assassination of former Lebanese Premier Rafiq al-Hariri, saying "We agreed on the secrecy of the investigation and we are committed to that."

Muaallem welcomed any Arab effort exerted to bring the Syrian-Lebanese relations back to normal.

He asserted Syria's commitment to the international resolutions, warning that as long as there is an occupation, national resistance is legal, and Syria supports this legality.
