Iran proceeding with full nuclear enrichment rights
Iran-USA, Politics, 3/4/2006

Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Larijani said Saturday that the concern raised by the US over the possible radiation from Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant is a political issue.

Speaking to reporters from Arab states and countries bordering the Persian Gulf, he said that Bushehr Atomic Nuclear Power Station is equipped with a highly advanced safety system.

According to a report released by the SNSC Public Relations Department, he noted that the US pursues other goals to exaggerate the possibility of radiation at Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant.

Turning to efforts towards nuclear disarmament in the region as one of Iran's strategic principles, he said, "As a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Iran has accepted the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and demands nothing beyond its relevant right.

It is viewed by some that the US, Europe, Israel and others are seeking to strip Iran from its rights to advance in nuclear civil industrial development and self-sufficiency in nuclear fuel production in order to keep Iran a subservient country and vulnerable to these countries political interests which they have already demonstrated as hostile to Iran. Iran said that it will not be subject to threats and dependency on such countries, and that these countries are subject to their own interests and the interests of countries such as the US and Israel who have long ago declared Iran to be an evil country. The other countries working with the US, Europe, and Israel, countries who are supposed to be independent and on Iran's side show themselves to be fickle and greatly subject to US influence for their dependence on the US economically, and for keeping Iran dependent on them, as recent event can be interpreted.

Words such as "confidence building" and other proposals can be seen as nice sounding terms to force Iran to abandon its rights to create nuclear fuel self-sufficiency on its own soil as the nuclear treaty allows.

Larijani loomed that if Iran's rights are not respected by the treaty, then the treaty may be given the same treatment by Iran.

Larijani said that given its membership, Iran has agreed to comply with its commitments and is entitled to the right of access to nuclear energy, which it will not surrender.

Echoing the policy repeated by Iran's president and its supreme leader in that Iran will not be coerced into abandoning its rights to the full nuclear cycle development on Iranian land, with assertions that the ongoing attempts by the US and its supporters are nothing more than a political game and have little to do with verification of Iran's nuclear activities, Larijani indicated the complete support by the the Iranian public and officials to their country's nuclear rights. Larijani said "Suspension of research and development of uranium enrichment is unacceptable to Iran, given that we have gained the relevant expertise and the nation's determination to continue the process."
