Lebanese dialogue conference held in positive atmospheres
Lebanon, Politics, 3/4/2006
In Thursday's session the participants in the Lebanese dialogue conference held consensus position on the international court to try persons convicted in the assassination of the former Lebanese prime minister Rafiq al-Hariri and on expanding the missions of the UN committee for the investigation to include other aggressions, and this added a positive atmosphere on that conference.
Speaker of the Lebanese parliament Nabih Berri said that the atmospheres prevailed in the first close door session "were not only serious but also positive despite the different stances of the dialogued sides."
Michel Aoun, prime minister Fouad Sinoura and other participants described the atmospheres of the dialogue as positive.
The parliamentary majority considered that Thursday's session achieved "a basic gain" as no side opposed the principle of quitting Lahoud, rather debating alternatives and guarantees.
A Lebanese national dialogue was launched on Thursday without a foreign patronage since the civil war in Lebanon 1975- 1990 amid an international and Arab dialogue in an attempt to contain the worst political crisis taking place in the country since the end of the civil war, 16 years ago.
