US diplomat assassination related hostages released in Jordanian prison
Jordan-USA, Local, 3/2/2006

The Jordanian ministry of interior announced that it had completed the operation of seizing hostages inside al-Jweidah jail after Islamists prisoners released all detainees they held including the director of prisons col. Saad al-Ajrami and the director of the prison Shaker al-Ajrami after promises that they will not be punished over this outbreak incident.

Security sources said that the capture of prisoners took place after clashes between the Jordanian forces with prisoners in three main jails where the prisoners believed that these government forces came to take away two prisoners sentenced to death in a case that is related to the assassination of the American diplomat Laurence Folley in Amman in 2001.

The Jordanian minister of interior Eid al-Fayez said that the release operation was made after negotiations between the two sides, noting that the government and the government departments dealt with the case with great wisdom so as to avoid bloodshed.

Fayez said before the parliament that several security men and prisoners were injured during the confrontations that took place while the negotiations were ongoing, noting that the officers and the soldiers entered the beds of the prisoners without being armed because the law does not permit deploying arms to the prisoners bed halls.
