Saudi Arabia confirms killing an al-Qaida leader in clashes

Saudi Arabia spoke of the killing of the leader of al-Qaida organization in Saudi Arabia in the clashes which took place between the security forces and wanted men to the east of the capital on Monday.

A statement by the ministry of interior on Tuesday gave mention to four names out of the five who were killed in the clashes with the security forces east of the capital Riyadh, including Fahd Bin Farraj Bin Muhammad al-Jweir which it said "was responsible for the cells of crimes," in remarks to al-Qaida organization.

In addition to al-Jweir, the statement which was issued by the Saudi official news agency included names of each of Jaffal Bin Mazhour al-Shumarri, Ibrahim Bin Abdullah Bin Ibrahim al-Mateiri and Abdullah Bin Mahya Bin Shalash al-Shummari. The statement also read that two of the killed men took part in al-Qaida attack against the Abqaik oil firm east of the kingdom on Friday.

All the names mentioned in the statement excluding Jaffal al-Shummari were on the list of the 36 most wanted persons by the Saudi authorities, while the name of the fifth killed man in the clashes was not mentioned.

The Saudi authorities foiled the Abqaik attack which was claimed by al-Qaida, and which threatened in a statement on the internet of more attacks.
