Palestinian president will not resign
Palestine, Politics, 2/28/2006

The Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said on Monday that he does not intend to resign, if he wil not be able to follow up peace steps with Israel under a new government formed by Hamas, denying statements broadcast by a British TV station this week to this effect.

Abbas notified journalists in the Yemeni capital Sanaa noting to a TV statement broadcast by a British TV on Sunday saying that what was broadcast was untrue.

He added that he never said he wanted to resign and never gave mention to that. He added that he was elected according to a certain political program and that he will make all efforts to execute it.

The Palestinian president also stressed that the Hamas movement is one of the most committed movements to ease down tension, and there is nothing that can justify the Israeli threats against Hamas, in remarks to Israeli statements in this regard against the leaders of the movement.

Concerning clashes with the Israeli forces, news reports in Hebron said that 15 Palestinians were injured during confrontations with the Israeli occupation forces in Bani Naem town, east of Hebron.

The casualties resulted from Israeli soldiers firing of rubber bullets and tear gas against young Palestinians after one Israeli military force broke into the city after besieging one house in search of Israeli wanted persons.
