Saddam meets his lawyer ends food strike
Iraq, Politics, 2/27/2006

Chairman of the defense commission for the former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, Khalil al-Duleimi, said that Saddam ended a hunger strike that lasted 11 days.

Duleimi said he had met Hussein in prison for seven hours last Sunday. He explained in statements in Amman that Saddam lost five kilograms of weight because of the hunger strike which he was obliged to end for health reasons.

It was decided that the trial of Saddam and his aids will resume tomorrow. Duleimi did not disclose whether the lawyers team will attend the session. He added that the former president demands a just trial. Duleimi said that the chairman of the court, the Kurdish judge Raouf Rashid Abdul Rahman, has recently lifted the embargo used to be imposed on the meetings of Saddam with his lawyers.
