Hamas leader: we are focused on our mandate

The chief of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement's (Hamas) Political Bureau, Khaled Mashaal, in Iran yesterday, addressing the world community, said that Hamas welcomes dialogues on equal footing by all parties.

Speaking at a gathering of Tehran University students at Shahid Chamran Hall, he added that such dialogues should be independent, given that some of the Palestinian bankrupt factions face the problem of yielding to talks on account of their reliance upon others.

In response to a question about holding talks with the US, he noted, "We are not satisfied with the measures taken by the US, given its being brutal and taking sides with Israel. However, such a dissatisfaction should not be taken as the intention to enter into war with the US."

Stressing that Hamas will focus upon its war fronts with Israel, he noted that the movement will insist on the liberation of the occupied lands, the Holy Qods, the Palestinian refugees's right to return home as well as political and economic reform, adding that the Palestinians will not yield to occupation.

"Given the vote of the Palestinian people to Hamas as their leadership, the movement's leaders should dedicate themselves to this nation. To show our loyalty to our nation, we will materialize our goals," he added.

Mashaal pointed out that Israel should be taught to behave.

He said that establishment of diplomatic relations between some Arab states and Israel will be detrimental to the Palestinian nation and a bonus to Israel, to which it is not entitled, given the pursuance of its policies in the occupied lands.
