Iraqi minister survives bomb, a day of violence

During the few past hours, Iraq had witnessed a series of explosions and confrontations that resulted in killing and injuring scores, in an indication to the continued deteriorated security conditions in this country.
However, Abu Dashir area of the Shiite majority in al-Doura quarters in Baghdad was a stage for most violent of these attacks where 22 Iraqis were killed and other 28 injured in a booby trapped car explosions targeting one of the popular markets in the area.
In Baqouba, two police officers were killed today by bullets fired by unidentified gunmen while they were in their way to their workplace.
Eight Iraqis were at least killed and other 30 injured in the series of attacks including five in bombs in Baghdad and two in a booby trapped car to the south of Baghdad.
Also unidentified men assassinated the spokesman for the national dialogue council, Saad al-Janabi after he went missing since three days.
In another attack, the Iraqi minister of expatriates and the expelled Suheila Abd Jafaar survived an assassination attempt by a bomb thrown at her procession in al-Wazereyah area in Baghdad.
On the other hand, the police in Karkouk said it detained three members of al-Qaeda organization west of the city, noting that the detained men admitted they had carried out military acts against the American forces and the Iraqi police and army forces.
In al-Amara city to the south of Iraq, the Iraqi police said that six missiles were fired at two British bases there but no casualties were reported.
In another development, Iraqi soldiers detained 18 police men over detaining two persons for unknown reasons yet. A spokesman for the Iraqi ministry of the interior said that the detention operation was made on Sunday in al-Bonouk (banks) area in Baghdad, noting that investigations continue to find out whether the detained men were police men or not.
In Amman, the Jordanian prime minister Marouf al-Bekheit announced the release of the Jordanian hostage Mahmoud al-Seidat who was kidnapped in Iraq in December 2005.
