Qatar's First Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassem Bin Jabor al-Thani, and his accompanying delegation arrived in the Syrian capital last evening on a two-day visit.
Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassem said that he was carrying a verbal message from the Amir, Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa al-Thani, to the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad dealing with bilateral ties, besides the situation in the region. The First Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister said he was accompanied by an economic delegation including representatives from the Finance Ministry and Diar company.
On Qatari efforts to contain the crisis between Syria and Lebanon, the Minister said "We will discuss all matters of interest to the two countries, and the situation in the region in general, but there is no plan to discuss the tension between them."
On referral of the Syrian file to UN Security Council, and Qatar's role as a non-permanent member of the Council, the minister said that up till now nothing official reached the Council, but if it happens, it will be discussed on the basis of the international logic and justice.
The Qatari Foreign Minister on Tuesday expressed the desire of Qatari businessmen to invest in Syria due to the existing good investment atmosphere.
This came during a meeting between Syrian Deputy Premier for Economic Affairs Abdullah Dardari and Sheikh Hamad in which both sides discussed cooperation between the two countries and peoples.
Both sides called for boosting and enhancing economic ties through establishing joint investment projects in all fields.
