Formation of Iraqi government stumble
Iraq, Politics, 2/17/2006
Attempts to form a new Iraqi government have stumbled after 50 days since the legislative elections and the recent final results announcement that the Shiite coalition bloc on the elections at the majority of the parliament seats.
Chairman of Kurdistan area Masoud al-Barazani said that the situation in Iraq is still in need of negotiation. He added "I do not think there are conditions that avail the winning party to rule Iraq." He stressed that "One sect nor one front neither one list can rule. There should be a national alliance that deals with honoring elections realities."
Barazani who currently takes part in the political negotiations in Baghdad said that that the national unity government should be formed from the four wining lists which are the United Iraqi Coalition, the Kurdistani Coalition and the Iraqi al-Tawafuk Front and the bloc of the former Iraqi prime minister Eyad Allawi.
The same call was advocated by the official spokesman for the Iraqi al-Tawafuk front Zafer al-Ani who stressed the need of getting all sides involved in the formation of the new government "should there be a desire to succeed."
